La protección de la Zona del Archipiélago de las Islas de Revillagigedo complicará más la pesca de atún, ya que fue una medida que el gobierno federal decretó sin consultar a los pescadores, consideró el Capitán de pesca Gildardo García Pérez, de la flota atunera de la empresa Marindustrias, instalada en Manzanillo.
Comentó García Pérez que en la pesca de atún se respetan las 12 millas que se tienen establecidas para su protección, pero el nuevo polígono –trazado desde un escritorio, dijo- aumentará casi a 100 millas la protección.
Con esa extensión de millas afectará hasta Baja California por el norte y el Golfo de Tehuantepc, que es muy rico en nutrientes.
Lo anterior afecta de manera importante la pesca de atún –consideró- porque la zona baja donde se encuentran los nutrientes queda dentro del polígono de protección y ya no se podrá pescar en esa zona a pesar de que se ha hecho durante muchos años.
Comentó que la Comisión Interamericana de Atún Tropical (CIAT) lleva estadísticas acerca de las mejores zonas para pescar y precisamente una de éstas es la que recientemente se marcó con el polígono de restricción en Revillagigedo. Explicó nuestro entrevistado que el pez atún si no es capturado muere de vejez, cuya vida puede ser aproximadamente de 35 años y eso significa una falta de oportunidad para alimentar a millones de seres humanos.
Quizá los efectos del decreto de protección no se noten en este momento para el sector pesquero porque desde el pasado 18 de noviembre inició la veda de atún, misma que se levantará el 18 de enero y ya una vez que reinicie la pesca se notarán los efectos contrarios, estimó el Capitán García Pérez.
Se le cuestionó si en aguas profundas era posible pescar y señaló nuestro entrevistado que hay vida marina pero si no se generan las condiciones de choques de corrientes que eleven los nutrientes la pesca no puede ser posible.
